Orovale Kennels was founded in the 1970’s by Gail Bishop, a respected breeder of English Setters, Saint Bernard and Newfoundland dogs. Gail became involved in Leonbergers in the early 90’s when she imported her first Leo female, Panda c. Ratibor U. Corvey (“Niki”) from the kennel of Prince Nicholas Ratibor in Germany. Our paths crossed in late 1998 when my husband and I got our first Leonberger, Niki’s daughter, Ch. Orovale’s Alexis (Lexi). Little did any of us realize that it would be the beginning of a friendship spanning many years.
Gail was a fountain of knowledge on all things relating to dogs in general, and Leos in particular. I learned a lot from her, and felt privileged to call her my friend. Sadly, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in 2010 and lost her battle the following year.
Before she passed, Gail asked me to continue her work by entrusting me with the Orovale name, together with co-ownership of her pride and joy, Orovale’s Endless Rhapsody (“Echo”). I am, therefore, honored to continue her legacy through Orovale Leonbergers.
